The hotels we have chosen are firstly some of the most popular and appreciated in the city centre and quite close to the Santa Maria Novella railway station ("Option A"). We had the chance to select two hotels which offer special fares for this event, so check them out ("Option B").
If you prefer, we also have found some hotels in the Osmannoro area in Sesto Fiorentino, about 8km far from the city centre but considerably closer to the CNR convention area ("Option C").
Obviously, it's not compulsory for you to choose one of these. If you prefer, you can check online http://www.firenzeturismo.it/en.html and find the best solution for your needs.
Don't forget to book in advance, since May is very high season and hotels could run out of rooms. If you want to take advantage of the shuttle bus to/from Conference location, please look for a hotel which is not too far from the Santa Maria Novella Railway Station.

OPTION B - Hotels situated in Florence city centre, near Santa Maria Novella Railway Station, that offer a special fare for the meeting. To take advantage of the special fare, you just need to declare when reserving that you are attending the ASSFTS meeting organized by CNR, taking place from May 5th to May 9th 2009.

From the airport of Florence (Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci) it is possible to reach the centre of Florence using the Volainbus airport Shuttle which reaches the Autostazione SITA located next to the Central Railway Station of Santa Maria Novella. Tickets are avaible on board for € 4,00
The buses are not very frequent and considering the short distance the taxi is a good alternative (about 20 €).
Similar considerations apply when going from the city centre to the airport.
AIRPORT - CNR CONFERENCE LOCATION
The airport of Florence (Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci) and the Conference location (CNR via Madonna del Piano, 10 - Sesto Fiorentino. The CNR establishment is part of the "Polo Scientifico") are located very close to each other, but no direct connection exists between the two. By bus it is necessary to go to the city centre and take from there the connections that go to the Conference location. Taxi is the only fast mean of transport between the two.
On the way back the assistants at the Conference desk will help you for the taxi booking.
CENTRAL STATION - CNR CONFERENCE LOCATION
SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE
You can choose different ways to reach the conference location, CNR research area in Sesto Fiorentino (www.area.fi.cnr.it/english/) . Since it's quite far from the city centre (about 9km), if you're staying in one of the hotels of the above-mentioned options A or B, we advise you to take advantage of the SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE.
We are providing you a coach bus service to/from Florence City centre/CNR area. Everyday for the whole length of the meeting, such shuttle will pick you up from the meeting point in Santa Maria Novella Railway Station (see map) in the morning at 8.15 AM sharp and comfortably drop you right at CNR Research area entrance on time for the convention.
Obviously the service is to be intended round-trip, which means that when the day of workshop is over, same shuttle will bring you back to the meeting point, leaving the CNR area:
first day - 6:00 PM
second day - 5:45 PM
third day - 2:30 PM
Approximate travel length : 30 minutes or less, depending on the traffic.
BY BUSFrom the centre of Florence it is possible to reach the conference location at the CNR Area, within the Polo Scientifico, using one of the following options.
BUS NUMBER 57
Bus 57 has stops in the main central locations (Piazza San Marco/Duomo/Central Station SMN) and its final stop is at CNR where the conference is.

BUS NUMBER 57B AND NUMBER 59
When bus 57 does not make the long ride to CNR you can use Bus 57B up to the last stop of NUOVO PIGNONE 02, cross the road to bus stop TRE PIETRE and take Bus 59 up to bus stop CNR.
On the way back take Bus 59 from stop CNR up to bus stop NUOVO PIGNONE 02 where you can get Bus 57 to the city centre.
BUS NUMBER 23 and NUMBER 59
When bus 57 does not make the long ride to CNR you can also use instead Bus 23 (you can use either bus 23, or bus 23A), which has stops near the river (Ponte alle Grazie), near Piazza Santa Croce, Duomo, Central Station SMN. Use bus 23 up to the bus stop TRE PIETRE (if you take bus 23A you get off at NUOVO PIGNONE and cross the road to bus stop TRE PIETRE) where you can take Bus 59 up to bus stop CNR.
On the way back take Bus 59 from stop CNR up to either bus stop PERFETTI RICASOLI or bus stop FIORENTINA GAS, from there you can get bus 23 (you can use either bus 23, or bus 23B) to the city centre.

OSMANNORO - CNR CONFERENCE LOCATION
If you are staying at any of the hotels located in the Osmannoro Area (option C of the accommodations) you can reach the Conference location at the Polo Scientifico by ATAF bus using either number 59 or number 96.
BUS NUMBER 59
The time table from Osmannoro to CNR can be viewed at the link. Bus 59 from Bus stop CANTONE 2, exit at bus stop CNR at Polo Scientifico where the Conference is located.
The timetable from CNR to Osmannoro can be viewed at the link. Bus 59A from Bus stop CNR, exit at stop CANTONE.
The ride takes about 10 min, but this bus has an irregular timetable and its last ride is at 17:56.
BUS NUMBER 96
The time table from Osmannoro to CNR can be viewed at the link. Bus 96 from Bus stop SESTO F.NO FERMI, exit at bus stop CNR at Polo Scientifico where the Conference is located.
The timetable from CNR to Osmannoro can be viewed at the link. Bus 96B from Bus stop CNR, exit at stop VOLTURNO 02.
Also in this case the ride takes about 10 min.
These connections are not easy and you may experience some difficulties. Please inform us by mail in advance if you are staying at Osmannoro so that we can help you in case of problems.
